1937 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-010

Description

Tenth in the Wexler Team's catalog of repunched mintmarks for the 1937-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, WRPM-010 represents a different working die from the same Denver Mint year as WRPM-004, underscoring the remarkable number of RPM varieties produced when mintmarks were applied by hand. The high sequence number — ten cataloged RPMs for a single date and mint — illustrates how frequently positional errors occurred during hand-punching, where an engraver's mallet drove a steel D punch into the reverse die face and any shift between blows created overlapping mintmark imagery. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1937D-1MM-004, this variety carries secondary attribution enabling identification through either the Wexler or Coppercoins reference framework. Each WRPM number for the 1937-D represents a unique die with its own specific repunching direction and magnitude, and distinguishing WRPM-010 from the other nine preceding varieties requires careful comparison of the D mintmark's secondary image position relative to the primary impression. The 1937-D cent's substantial mintage ensured heavy die usage, contributing to the large population of distinct RPM dies documented for this issue.
