1937 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

This 1937 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent repunched mint mark, WRPM-001, is cataloged by Wexler (doubleddie.com) as 1937-D 1¢ WRPM-001. The mint mark is D/D North. Stage A shows a very strong secondary with two X-shaped scratches between the G and O of GOD, a scratch ESE from the lower E of WE, a scratch north from the L of LIBERTY, and scratches ESE from the bust. Later stages add a chip on the cheek (B) and a chip SW of the T in LIBERTY (C), while the secondary weakens to a mushy remnant by Stage D. Wexler notes the Stage A reverse is itself a doubled die, listed as 1937-D 1¢ WDDR-001, with an NNW scratch inside the second U of PLURIBUS; Stage D is a new reverse die.
