1937-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-004

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1937-D Lincoln Wheat Cent exhibits an unusually rich concentration of die surface anomalies visible from the earliest die stage. Die markers UVC-054 / DMR-002 track three stages: Stage A at EDS with a strong secondary mintmark, N-S die scratches through the date, die damage through L of LIBERTY, a die gouge under the middle of the bust, and a light die crack in the right wheat grains appearing at MDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The five distinct Stage A markers — spanning date, LIBERTY, bust, and wheat areas — represent an exceptional density of early-state die surface features. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1937-D was struck at Denver during the late Depression era with Brenner's obverse design in its third decade of production.
