1911-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-503, this VarietyVista-documented 1911-D Lincoln Wheat Cent shows a D/D Rotated CW displacement and tracks an extended die life across two reverse pairings. Die markers begin with UVC-3366 / DMR-008: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse and reverse at MDS; Stage C with obverse at LDS, die crack from middle right wheat to rim at LDS, and die crack from lower left wheat to rim. A reverse die change yields UVC-1078 / DMR-004: Stage D with obverse at LDS, reverse die changed to LDS, and die crack from lower left wheat grains to rim. The FS-503 listing confirms this as an actively sought Cherrypickers' variety. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1911-D was struck just three years after the Denver Mint began producing Lincoln Cents, when mintmark punching was done entirely by hand.
