1911 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003 / RPM-003

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-503, the 1911-D Lincoln wheat cent RPM-003, which Wexler numbers WRPM-003, shows a D/D rotated clockwise, and VarietyVista tracks it with two reverse dies. Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number FS-01-1911D-503 (012.82). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes the repunching as D/D tilted (rotated). Its obverse marker is a small die dot in the field off the lower left side of the R in TRUST. On the reverse a die crack runs west from the rim at 2:30 through the wheat ear, a second crack crosses it and runs north-south along the right edge of the wheat, and a NE/SW crack follows the lower right wheat grains. Paul Funaiole submitted the coin, upgraded by John Bordner. Wexler also lists CONECA RPM #3, Crawford CRPM-003 and Coppercoins 1911D-1MM-003. VarietyVista credits Mike Sturgeon and Paul Funaiole and gives D/D Rotated CW. Under marker codes UVC-3366 and DMR-008, stage A, an early die state, is unconfirmed; in stage B both sides are in a middle die state; in stage C the obverse is late, with die cracks from the middle right wheat (late) and the lower left wheat to the rim. Under UVC-1078 and DMR-004, stage D keeps the late obverse with a changed reverse die, also in a late state.
