1884 (O) Morgan Dollar - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-008

Description

1884-O WRPM-008 is a repunched mint mark on the 1884-O Morgan dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as an O/O West. Obverse Stage A has several cracks on Miss Liberty's cap: one running west off the upper maple leaf's top, a light one over and left of the cap's ball, one running SE into the field from the cap's upper center, and one running SE into the field from the ball's right side. On Obverse Stage B the leaf crack is stronger, crossing the leaf to the east and reaching further west; the crack at the cap's top extends ESE into the ball, and an NW/SE crack appears at the top of the ball. Reverse Stage A has a weak N/S crack on the left wing near its tip and a double die clash between the right wing and the upper right of the wreath. Reverse Stage B adds a crack below the ribbon knot, running WNW to the wreath's final leaf cluster and east along the knot's bottom, and a WNW/ESE crack through the middle of the fourth leaf cluster on the wreath's left side. The leaves on the outside of the left wreath are heavily abraded, and a crack runs SE from TRUST's last T, across the wing, to the lower left of AMERICA's M. David Mulberry submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as RPM #9, and its VAM number is #15.
