1884-O Repunched Mintmark WRPM-004
Error
Description
Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1884-O $1 WRPM-004, cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #11 and VAM #21, this New Orleans Morgan dollar shows an O/O west repunched mintmark. Obverse Stage A reveals a tooling gouge on the N in UNUM, parallel scratches between IN and GOD, and a scratch from the G in GOD. Stage B adds a die chip on the horizontal bar of the 4 and a gouge dot below B in LIBERTY while the IN-GOD scratches disappear. The reverse carries a short gouge north from the D in UNITED, a wavy scratch above the right wheat stem, and what appears to be a doubled die reverse with doubling toward the rim on GOD WE TRUST, TATES OF AMERICA, the right wreath, and the ribbon bow. Die chips inside the upper D of DOLLAR, a double clash at the left wing below N of IN, and a chip at the G of GOD complete the reverse diagnostics. Double die clash at the left wing below the N of IN. Die chip at the upper inside of the G in GOD.Submitted By: David MulberryCross References: CONECA: RPM #2, VAM: #7 Obverse: Die chip centered on the bottom of the horizontal bar of the 4 in the date.
