Description
1878-S VAM-28 Die Scratch on Wing, Engraved Wing Feather Discovered by David DeRuiter, November 1979. This coin is a Top 30 1878-S Variety. 28 II 55 - B2o (Die Scratch on Wing, Engraved Wing Feather) (184) Obverse II 55 - Some LDS specimens show faint vertical die crack in back of scratch on forehead of VAM 8. Reverse B2o - Late die stage with die chip on upper part of eagle's breast. Emission sequence: obverse 28, 8. Notes: VAM's 1878-S VAM-16, 1878-S VAM-16A, 1878-S VAM-20 & 1878-S VAM-28 share the same reverse. Obverse also used for 1878-S VAM-8. Vertical scratch through lower part of eagle's right wing. R in TRUST not Broken. Die chip on E of UNITED and in middle of eagle's chest.
