About This Series
The first half eagle ($5 gold) design and among the first gold coins struck by the U.S. Mint. Robert Scot's design features Liberty in a turban-like cap with both Small Eagle and Heraldic Eagle reverses. The 1795 Small Eagle is a classic early American gold coin. Half eagles were the most commonly used gold denomination in early American commerce.
