Classic Head Half Eagles 1834-1838

About This Series

William Kneass designed this transitional half eagle after the gold content reduction made circulating gold coins practical again. Like the quarter eagle, the motto was omitted to distinguish new-weight coins. Charlotte (C) and Dahlonega (D) mint coins from 1838 are early Southern branch mint gold issues. The series bridges the classic and Liberty Head eras.
