About This Coin
The 1795 Capped Bust to Right Half Eagle is a United States Gold Half Eagle from the Capped Bust to Right Half Eagles 1795-1807 series — the first year of the series. The Mint delivered 8,707 half eagles from July 31 to September 16, 1795; the Heraldic Eagle coins dated 1795 were struck later and are not part of that figure. The obverse features Liberty facing right in a tall soft cap, and the reverse displays either a small eagle standing on a palm branch with a wreath in its beak or, on coins struck from 1798, a heraldic eagle with a shield on its breast and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll above. First year of U.S. gold coinage. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% silver and copper, weighing 8.75 grams, 25 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Designed by Robert Scot.
