Description
The 1795 Capped Bust to Right Half Eagle - Small Eagle was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a Gold Half Eagle in the Capped Bust to Right Half Eagles 1795-1807 series. The Mint delivered 8,707 half eagles from July 31 to September 16, 1795, the first 744 of them on July 31. The obverse features Liberty facing right in a tall soft cap, and the reverse displays a small eagle standing on a palm branch with a wreath in its beak. First year of U.S. gold coinage. Struck in 91.7% gold, 8.3% silver and copper, weighing 8.75 grams, 25 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8066.
