2022 (P) Anna May Wong Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse VDDO-001

Description

VDDO-001, a doubled die obverse documented by VarietyVista for the 2022 Philadelphia Anna May Wong Quarter, displays a medium spread northward on the 20 of the date. The northward directional spread indicates the hub was offset upward during the secondary hubbing impression, displacing the date digits in that direction. Die marker codes and variety classification numbers were pending catalog assignment at the time of documentation, reflecting this variety's status as a recent discovery still being integrated into the broader VarietyVista numbering framework. Three die states have been identified: Stage A at early die state remains unconfirmed, Stage B shows both obverse and reverse at mid-die state, and Stage C at late die state remains unconfirmed. The Anna May Wong Quarter is part of the American Women Quarters series launched in 2022, honoring the pioneering Chinese American film star who broke barriers in Hollywood during the early twentieth century. Wong's reverse portrait, designed by Emily Damstra, makes this the first circulating U.S. coin to feature an Asian American. Philadelphia struck this issue on copper-nickel clad planchets, and the medium spread on the date offers a straightforward pickup point for collectors searching through rolls and bags for this variety.
