2013 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DER-007T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Trails cover much of the lettering on 2013P-1DER-007T: UNITED, STATES, PLURIBUS, UNUM and ONE all show lines at 350°, a few degrees west of north. The code reads 2013P (2013, Philadelphia), 1 (cent), DER (design extension reverse), 007 (file) and T (trails). TrailDies shows the die at two stages. At stage A, early, neither side has markers. By stage C, late, a crack runs from the rim in front of WE down into Lincoln's hair, and another sits on the shield's top left over the PLU of PLURIBUS. David Strzalkowski found it. It is generally held that trails come from rotary polishing of the die, while a minority opinion points to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – a die crack has formed from the rim in front of the word WE down into Lincoln’s hair.
• Reverse is LDS – a die crack is seen on the top, left edge of the shield over the letters PLU of PLURIBUS.
