2013 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

Pronounced notching on the letters ERTY in LIBERTY defines WDDO-003 on the 2013 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent, where hub displacement produced strong squared-off separation visible along the vertical strokes and serifs of each affected letter. The notch pattern across four consecutive letters in the motto creates a concentrated diagnostic zone that collectors can examine efficiently under moderate magnification. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 2013P-1DO-006, this variety holds dual attributions in both the Wexler and Coppercoins cataloging systems, providing independent confirmation paths for attribution. The Lincoln Shield Cent, introduced in 2009 with a Union shield reverse designed by Lyndall Bass, continued the long-running Lincoln portrait obverse while modernizing the coin's reverse imagery. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2013 1¢ WDDO-003, the strong notching on ERTY parallels similar LIBERTY doubling patterns found on other Shield Cent doubled dies, making this a recognizable variety type within the modern Lincoln Cent series.
