Description
2013P-1DER-003T has trails off the tops of AMER in AMERICA, running at 060°, east-northeast, up and to the right. The number: 2013P (date and Philadelphia), 1 (cent), DER (the reverse's design extension), 003 (file), T (trails). AMERICA closes the legend along the top of the reverse, so the lines head toward the rim at the upper right. The coin TrailDies describes is late in the die's life (stage C); the obverse has nothing noted, and the reverse shows a crack along the upper edge of the shield. Credit for the find goes to Joe Koelling. The prevailing view ties trails to a rotary buff used to polish the die, and a minority view ties them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – none noted.
- Reverse is LDS – a die crack is seen along the upper edge of the shield.
