Description
2013P-1DEO-009T is a late-state obverse (stage C) with trails falling from the feet of LIBERTY's letters at 190°, just west of south. The number spells out 2013 Philadelphia, a one-cent coin, DEO for a design extension on the obverse, file 009 and T for trails. Markers on the coin TrailDies describes include a small gouge under the B of VDB on the obverse. The reverse has damage at the shield's top left with a crack running down to the L of PLURIBUS, and another crack entering the field from the shield's upper right at its crown. Joe Koelling found it. The standard account traces these lines to polishing the die with a rotary buff, while a minority credits die-to-hub movement.
Die Markers
- Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – a small die gouge is seen below the B in VDB.
- Reverse is LDS – die damage is seen on the upper left edge of the shield with a die crack traversing down to the letter L in PLURIBUS. Another die crack is seen on the upper right edge of the shield entering into the field from the shield’s crown.
