Description
On 2013P-5DER-006T the trails are confined to the tops of the two Ls in MONTICELLO and point to 010°, slightly east of north. TrailDies' code is made up of the 2013 date and Philadelphia mint, 5 marking the nickel, DER for a reverse-side design extension, the file number 006 and T for trails. The entry places the coin at a middle die state, with neither die showing any recorded markers, so those two letters are what to look at. Jim Karnes found the die. One common explanation is rotary polishing of the die; a minority instead favour the die moving against the hub.
