About This Coin
The 2013 Jefferson Nickel is a United States nickel from the Jefferson Nickels Return to Monticello 2006 to Date series. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing forward in a three-quarter view, the first forward-facing portrait on a U.S. circulating coin, while the reverse displays Monticello in a refined depiction. Designed by Jamie Franki/Felix Schlag. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Produced at the Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco Mints. The Return to Monticello design debuted in 2006, retaining the forward-facing Jefferson portrait introduced during the Westward Journey series. The Monticello reverse returned but with refinements to the original Schlag design. Current circulating design. Satin Finish Mint Set versions (2005-2010) and proof issues provide collecting depth.
