First cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2013 Jefferson Nickel, WDDR-001 exhibits Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling on Felix Schlag's Monticello reverse. Doubling is visible on the door frame above the steps of Monticello, where the tilted hub created a secondary impression shifting the architectural detail from its primary position. Close examination reveals the spread concentrated on the fine lines of the building's entrance. Diagnostic die gouges confirm attribution: a gouge at the upper left of the P in PLURIBUS and another at the lower left of the R in PLURIBUS provide two fixed reference points that together form a reliable identification pair. Class VIII doubling originates from angular misalignment between hub and die during hubbing — the hub tilts on a pivot axis, producing spread that increases with distance from the tilt point.
