2013 (P) Jefferson Nickel - P-5DER-003T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Every letter beneath the Monticello building carries trails on 2013P-5DER-003T, and they run at 240°, west-southwest, toward the lower left. The number stands for a 2013 Philadelphia nickel (2013P, 5) whose reverse shows a design extension (DER); it is file 003 and of the trail type (T). On the late-die-state coin described, a small gouge lies under the E of WE; on the reverse, small gouges sit below the UR of PLURIBUS and under the C of MONTICELLO. Ron Traino found the die. Trails are typically blamed on a rotary tool used to polish the die, although some think movement of the die against the hub produced them.

• Reverse is LDS – a small die gouge is seen below the UR of PLURIBUS. Another small die gouge is seen under the C of MONTICELLO.
