Description
Trails on 2011P-1DER-004T run at 250°, west-southwest, from the INED of UNITED and from letters of STATES including the E. Broken down, the TrailDies number is the year, the Philadelphia P, the cent's 1, DER for a reverse design extension, file 004 and the T of trails. TrailDies' coin is a late one: a large crack runs from Lincoln's brow through his forehead into the hairline, and TrailDies notes an unusual orange-peel texture that may point to a die of soft metal. On the reverse, two small gouges sit around the R of AMERICA. Steven Bingham found the die. A rotary buff used to polish the die is the usual suspect for trails, though some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.
Die Markers
- Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a large die crack is seen from Lincoln’s brow through his forehead and into his hairline. Unusual die wear, in the form of “orange peel” may indicate that this was a “soft metal” die.
- Reverse is LDS – two small die gouges are seen around the R of AMERICA
