2011 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002 / DDO-001

Description

2011 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 2011 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team and by VarietyVista as DDO-001. Wexler lists Crawford CDDO-003, CONECA 1-O-VI and Coppercoins 1DO-004; VarietyVista gives no cross-reference. Wexler describes very strong extra thickness on the date digits and on LIBERTY, with notches at the lower right corners of those digits and letters, and strong extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST, where some letters are notched too. Stage A came from Steve Heleine and stage B from Joseph Koelling. Wexler noted no obverse marker in stage A; in stage B a die gouge lies in the field well above the RT of LIBERTY and to the west of Lincoln's ear. On the stage A reverse a die scratch runs from southwest to northeast beneath the right end of the T's crossbar in CENT. Reverse stage B shows a die crack along the shield's top edge on its left, and a die chip sits at the base of the E in CENT. VarietyVista, crediting Joseph Koelling, reports strong extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST as well as on the date and LIBERTY, with notches at some lower right corners. Under its marker codes UVC-3044 and DMR-002 it lists stage B with a die gouge in the field above the RT of LIBERTY and a die chip on the E of CENT's lower bar, both at a middle die state, plus a light die crack along the upper left of the shield. Its stage A (early die state) and stage C (late die state) are unconfirmed.
