Description

SKH-1c-2011-06 is a spiked head on the 2011 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent, from the second production year of the Union Shield reverse. In 2011, the Shield Cent was still a new type, having replaced the four 2009 bicentennial designs and the single 2010 inaugural issue, and die production for the new reverse was well into its second full year. A spiked head is a die crack: a crack opens in the obverse die and runs from the rim into Lincoln's bust, and the metal filling it creates a raised spike on Lincoln's head. Several of the 2011-P obverse dies cracked this way across the production run.
