2011 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

2011 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 2011 Lincoln Shield cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The digits of the date show extra thickness and are notched at their lower left corners; the ERTY of LIBERTY shows some extra thickness as well. Obverse, Stage A: over the 2 in the date, a scratch running SSW to NNE; under the 2, two parallel scratches running NNW to SSE; and a scratch going SW from the middle of the second 1. Stage B: a crack curving WSW to ENE through the hair on top of the head; two cracks through the hair over the forehead, one west to east and one WNW to ESE; and a crack heading NW through the eyebrow that then turns NNW into the forehead. Two reverse dies are recorded. Stage A, the first reverse: a short gouge going NE from the upper right of the second T in STATES; short WSW to ENE gouges between the letters L, U, R, I and B of PLURIBUS; and NW to SE scratches through the N in UNUM, at its upper left and lower right. Stage B, the second reverse: two parallel SW to NE gouges from the first U through to the R of PLURIBUS; a gouge through the tops of UNU in UNUM; a crack along the top left of the shield; and a chip on top of the shield north of the first U in PLURIBUS. Wayne Perry submitted Stage A and Forrest L. Morace Stage B. Its Coppercoins number is 2011P-1DO-001, and Crawford lists it as CDDO-001.
