2011 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DER-001T Trail Die Reverse

Description

The trails on 2011P-1DER-001T rise from the tops of MERI in AMERICA and from the F in OF, pointing straight up at 000°, due north. In this TrailDies code, 2011P is the date and Philadelphia mint, 1 the cent, DER a design extension on the reverse, 001 the file number and T the trails. The coin is at an early middle die state. On its obverse there is a small gouge above and to the upper right of the 0 in the date, a faint slanting scratch below the chin and a small gouge southwest of the second T in TRUST; the reverse has a small gouge above the shield's left corner. Louis Schaeffer found the die. Trails are generally blamed on polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
