2011 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - P-1DEO-017T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Faint lines drop from the last two digits of the date on 2011P-1DEO-017T, at 170°, slightly east of due south. TrailDies' number is made of the date and mint (2011P), the denomination (1, one cent), DEO, short for obverse design extension, the file (017) and T for trails. Its middle-die-state coin has a die chip in the hair, under the E of WE, and a crack marks the upper left of the shield on the reverse. Albert Neils found the die. Because the lines are faint, the chip in the hair is a useful check. Trails are usually blamed on polishing the die with a rotary buff, with some instead attributing them to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – a die chip is seen in Lincoln’s hair below the E of WE.
• Reverse is MDS – a die crack is seen on the left, upper edge of the shield.
