Description
2011P-1DEO-016T has trails rising from the final two digits of the date, the 11, at 350°, just west of straight up. TrailDies' code sets out the year with P (Philadelphia), 1 (the cent), DEO (obverse design extension), file 016 and T (trails). On the obverse of the coin, which is at a middle die state, there is a small crack in Lincoln's forehead and the start of another at the top of his head, beneath the E of WE; TrailDies noted no reverse markers. Albert Neils found the die. TrailDies' 013T has lines in the same place and direction, but its reverse is cracked around the shield, while this one shows nothing. Polishing of the die with a rotary tool is the usual explanation for trails, although some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – a small die crack is seen in Lincoln’s forehead. The beginning of another die crack is seen in the top of Lincoln’s head below the E of WE.
- Reverse is MDS – none noted.
