2011P-1DEO-008T Trail Die Obverse
Error
Description
Found by Jim Fines, the 2011P-1DEO-008T trail die obverse on the Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent is documented at Stage B with both sides at mid-die-state. The obverse carries a small metal flow line to the right of the O in GOD, a die-surface artifact where metal displacement during the hubbing or heat-treatment process created a raised linear feature on struck coins. On the reverse, a very small die chip appears in the left upper edge of the shield, providing a reverse diagnostic within the central design element introduced in 2009. Trail die obverse varieties preserve residual impressions from a prior hubbing on the obverse working die, and the metal flow line near the O in GOD offers a precise motto-area identification point. The Shield reverse, designed by Lyndall Bass, features a Union shield symbolizing Lincoln's preservation of the United States as a single nation. The combination of the obverse flow line near IN GOD WE TRUST with the shield-edge die chip on the reverse creates a paired diagnostic set for confirming this trail die variety from the early Shield Cent production years.
