2011P-1DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Discovered by Robert Kirkland, the 2011P-1DEO-002T is a trail die obverse variety found on Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cents. Trail dies result from vestiges of a previous hub impression remaining on the working die, creating faint secondary design traces. Documented at Stage B with both sides at mid-die-state, no significant obverse markers have been noted. The reverse carries a die dent on the F of the word OF and two rim nicks just opposite of the O in ONE. The die dent at OF provides a quick initial sorting criterion, while the paired rim nicks opposite ONE serve as secondary confirmation. The mid-die-state condition on both sides places this die pair at an intermediate production phase, where trail die impressions remain identifiable but may require careful examination under magnification to distinguish from normal die characteristics on the Shield Cent design.
