Description
Lines fall straight down, at 180° (due south), from the bottoms of the two 1s in the date and from the RTY of LIBERTY on 2011P-1DEO-002T. Taken piece by piece, that TrailDies number is the 2011 date with Philadelphia's P, a 1 for the cent, DEO (design extension, obverse side), file 002 and the trails suffix T. TrailDies saw nothing to mark the obverse of its coin, which is at a middle die state, but the reverse has a die dent near the F of OF and two small nicks in the rim across from the O of ONE. Robert Kirkland found the die. The usual account says a rotary buff, run over the die to polish it, pulls these lines out of the design; a minority view ties them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – none noted.
- Reverse is MDS – a die dent is seen from the F of the word OF. Two rim nicks are seen just opposite of the O in ONE.
