2011 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - -1DER-016T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2011-1DER-016T has two sets of trails, both on UNITED. The first runs from NITE at 060°, east-northeast; the second, faint set sits on the upper part of UNI at 355°, almost due north. The TrailDies number omits the mint letter for this 2011 Philadelphia cent and continues with the cent's 1, DER for a reverse design extension, file 016 and T. The middle-die-state coin has no reverse markers; on the obverse TrailDies notes slight extra thickness in the 2 of the date and the Y of LIBERTY. Lynn Morace found the die. The usual explanation is polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute trails to the die moving against the hub.
