2011 (P) Lincoln Shield Cent - -1DEO-005T Trail Die Obverse

Filed by TrailDies as 2011-1DEO-005T, this Philadelphia Lincoln Shield cent obverse carries a number with no mint letter in it: 2011 is the year, the lone 1 means one cent, DEO says the design extends on the obverse, 005 is the file and T marks trails. The lines hang along the underside of LIBERTY, heaviest at the Y and fading out toward the I, and run at 160°, south-southeast, toward the lower right of the coin. Louis Schaeffer found the die. TrailDies' coin comes from the middle of the die's life, with a small gouge under the 20 of the date and, on the reverse, a crack and break where the shield's top meets its left side. Trails like these are generally put down to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, although some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
