Description

Trails on 2009P(PL)-1DER-008T come off the designer's initials and the letters EPL of the motto and run almost straight up, at 350°, just west of north. The number is made of the date and Philadelphia mint (2009P), the Professional Life design tag (PL), the cent's 1, DER for a design extension on the reverse, file 008 and T for trails. TrailDies gives no die state; its one marker is a diagonal scratch through the RT of LIBERTY on the obverse, with nothing noted on the reverse. The finder is given as Steven Bernatowski. Polishing of the die with a rotary tool is how trails are usually explained, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
