Description
Discovered by Steven Bernatowski, the 2009P-1DER-008T documents a trail die reverse on the Lincoln Bicentennial Professional Life cent, one of four special reverse designs issued in 2009 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. This particular design depicts Lincoln standing before the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield, representing his years as a lawyer and legislator. The obverse carries a diagonal die scratch visible through the RT of LIBERTY, serving as the primary die marker for attribution. No distinctive die markers were noted on the reverse. Trail die varieties on the 2009 bicentennial cents are of particular interest because each of the four reverse designs was produced for only a single year, meaning die pairs saw concentrated use over a compressed production window. Philadelphia Mint examples of the Professional Life design circulated widely, making authenticated trail die specimens a noteworthy find for Lincoln cent specialists.
