2009 (D) Lincoln Cent - Formative Years - D(FY)-1DER-004T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light trails leave the mallet head and the grass on 2009D(FY)-1DER-004T and run to the right, at roughly 090°, due east. Its TrailDies number joins the year and Denver mint (2009D), the Formative Years design tag (FY), the cent (1), DER for the reverse design-extension category, the file 004 and T for trails. At middle die state there is a crack above Lincoln's eyebrow on the obverse; on the reverse, a chip sits in the seated Lincoln's left shoulder and cracks start at the top of ONE's N. Jean Lee found the die. Trails are generally credited to rotary polishing of the die; a less common reading puts them down to die movement against the hub.

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – a die crack is seen above Lincoln’s eyebrow.
• Reverse is MDS – a die chip is seen in Lincoln’s left shoulder. Die cracks areseen from the top of the N in ONE.
