2009D-1DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Discovered by Sarah Romero of Colorado, the 2009D-1DER-002T is a trail die reverse variety on the Denver Mint Lincoln Cent Formative Years design. The 2009 Formative Years reverse, part of the Lincoln Bicentennial series, depicts a young Abraham Lincoln splitting rails with a mallet and log, providing distinctive design elements for variety attribution. Documented at Stage B, the obverse is at early-mid die state with a die crack visible on Lincoln's forehead. The reverse is also at EMDS, displaying die cracks in both boots and the mallet head. The concentration of reverse die cracks across three distinct design elements, two in the boots and one in the mallet head, creates a triangulated diagnostic pattern spanning the lower and middle portions of the log-splitting figure. The forehead crack on the obverse provides an independent confirmation point on the opposite side of the coin.
