2009 (D) Lincoln Cent - Formative Years - D(FY)-1DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

TrailDies records trails from the right sides of the E in ONE and the T in CENT on 2009D(FY)-1DER-002T, offset at 110°, east-southeast, toward the right and slightly down. The number stands for 2009, Denver, the Formative Years reverse (FY), the cent, a reverse design extension (DER), file 002 and trails (T). According to the entry it is coupled with an obverse trail die. The coin is early middle die state, with a crack on Lincoln's forehead on the obverse and cracks through both of young Lincoln's boots and the head of the mallet on the reverse. Sarah Romero of Colorado found it. Trails like these are usually traced to polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “B”, obverse is EMDS – a die crack is seen on Lincoln’s forehead.
• Reverse is EMDS – die cracks are seen in both boots and the mallet head.
