About This Coin

The 2005 State Washington Quarter is a United States quarter from the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. In 2005, the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints struck 3,049,908,045 quarters of the five designs, including 16,314,800 clad proofs, 8,393,245 silver proofs and 11,600,000 satin-finish quarters. The Minnesota Extra Tree coins are part of the Philadelphia Minnesota figures. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order the states ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. The 2005 quarters honored, in release order, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia. Satin finish specimens from mint sets were produced. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Across its variants, estimated values range from $0 to $25 depending on mint mark, grade, and strike type. A notable auction result reached $9.0K in MS66 grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by John Flanagan (obverse, modified by William Cousins in 1999) / various state-specific reverse designers.
