About This Coin
The 2000 State Washington Quarter is a United States quarter from the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon, while the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. Designed by John Flanagan (obverse) / various state-specific reverse designers. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Produced at the Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco Mints. The 50 State Quarters Program (1999-2008) was the most successful numismatic program in U.S. history, with over 147 million Americans collecting the coins. Five new reverse designs were released each year, each honoring a different state's history, landmarks, or icons. The program revitalized coin collecting in America. Key issues include the 2004-D Wisconsin "Extra Leaf" varieties and various proof/silver proof versions.
