Description
The 2005 (P) Minnesota Satin Finish State Quarter is a special strike quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 1,160,000 satin-finish Minnesota quarters dated 2005. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order the states ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. The reverse features two fishermen in a canoe on a tree-lined lake with a common loon on the water and the inscription "Land of 10,000 Lakes." The state actually contains more than 11,000 lakes. The 2005 quarters honored, in release order, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia. Satin finish specimens from mint sets were produced. Auction record: $1,610 MS70 11-29-2007 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #914036.
