Description
The 2005 (D) Oregon State Quarter is a quarter minted at the Denver Mint, within the State Quarters 1999-2008 series. The U.S. Mint produced 404 million examples, making this the highest mintage among 11 variants, accounting for 12% of the year's production. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon and the reverse displays unique designs representing each of the 50 U.S. states, released in the order of statehood ratification. The reverse depicts Crater Lake with Wizard Island visible, flanked by mountain peaks and conifers. Crater Lake, formed in the caldera of a collapsed volcano, is the deepest lake in the United States at 1,949 feet. California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia. Satin finish specimens from mint sets were produced. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $6 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5.67 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #14039.
