Description
On 2004P-5DEO-003T, a 2004 Peace Medal nickel obverse, the trails start at the upper left serifs of LIBER in LIBERTY and climb at 000°, due north. TrailDies' number breaks into 2004P, the date and Philadelphia mint; 5, the nickel; DEO, an extension of the design on the obverse; 003, the file; and T, trails. Its heading adds HS for the handshake design. On this stage B example, from the middle of the die's life, a small gouge shows left of the W in WE, and on the reverse two small gouges lie in and around the OU of LOUISIANA. Bear Johnson found this die. The lines are generally thought to come from polishing the die with a rotary buff; others propose that the die moved against the hub.
