Description
The 2004 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Peace Medal is a nickel produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Jefferson Nickels Westward Journey 2004-2005 series. Total mintage reached 361.4 million. The obverse features two different obverse portraits: a modified Schlag portrait (2004) and a new forward-facing portrait by Joe Fitzgerald (2005), while the reverse displays four commemorative designs: the Peace Medal (2004), Keelboat (2004), American Bison (2005), and Ocean in View (2005). Designed by Felix Schlag/Norman Nemeth. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4154. The 2004-2005 Westward Journey Nickels commemorated the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Popular as a modern set. The 2005 Bison reverse by Jamie Franki became instantly iconic.
