The 2004 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Peace Medal is a nickel from the Philadelphia Mint, belonging to the Jefferson Nickels Westward Journey 2004-2005 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 361,440,000 Peace Medal nickels dated 2004. The obverse carries Felix Schlag's portrait of Jefferson, used on the nickel since 1938. The reverse adapts John Reich's 1801 Jefferson Peace Medal: clasped hands, one with a military uniform cuff and one with a beaded silver band and an American eagle, under LOUISIANA PURCHASE 1803; Norman E. Nemeth sculpted it. A modern issue from an era of rotating coin designs, collector-focused programs, and renewed interest in numismatic artistry. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.21 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4154.
