2004 (P) Jefferson Nickel - Peace Medal - P-5DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

2004P-5DEO-002T, the second Peace Medal obverse in TrailDies' nickel files (its heading tag, HS, refers to the handshake design), shows trails from the ERT of LIBERTY. Its code strings together the year and Philadelphia P, a 5 for the nickel, DEO (obverse-side design extension), file number 002 and the letter T for trails. The lines run at 000°, due north, up toward the rim above the lettering. The entry records no die stage or markers, so the letters affected are the main guide to this die. Tanaka Davis is named as its finder. Specialists mostly attribute trails to rotary polishing of the die face, and a minority attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
