Description
This obverse trail die comes from the 2004 Peace Medal nickel, and TrailDies heads the entry HS, matching that year's handshake design. Its number, 2004P-5DEO-001T, means 2004 Philadelphia, five cents, obverse design extension, file 001, trails. Light lines leave the upper left corners of the BER in LIBERTY and travel north at 000°, toward the top of the coin. A late-die-state coin (stage C) is described: a small gouge sits behind the lobe of Jefferson's nostril, and the reverse carries a small dent inside the U of UNITED. Tanaka Davis found it. Polishing of the die by a rotary buff is the explanation most often given, although some think the die moved against the hub instead.
