Description
TrailDies lists 2003P-5DEO-003T as its third trail file for the 2003 Philadelphia nickel obverse: 2003P for date and mint, 5 for the denomination, DEO for the obverse extension, 003 as its file number, T for the trail type. The lines come from the BERT in LIBERTY and point to 000°, straight toward the top rim. No obverse markers are recorded at this middle die state, but the reverse has a tiny die dot on the P of PLURIBUS that helps tell it from the other 2003 files. The die was found by Tanaka Davis. Trails like these are usually traced to a rotary polishing tool run over the die, with die-to-hub movement as the less common explanation.
Die Markers
- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – none noted
- Reverse is MDS – a small die dot is seen on the P of PLURIBUS.
