Description
Two directions show on 2003P-5DEO-002T. The light trails on the word IN head down at 180°, due south, while those on LIBERTY head up at 000°, due north, so the two sets point opposite ways. TrailDies' code gives the year 2003 and Philadelphia (P), the nickel (5), an obverse design extension (DEO), file 002 and trails (T). No obverse markers are given for this middle-die-state coin; the reverse has a small gouge below the second T of STATES, under its left arm. Tanaka Davis is credited with the find. The standard account traces trails to die polishing with a rotary buff; an alternative view has the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – none noted
- Reverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen just under the left arm of the second T in STATES.
