Description
The 2003 (P) Jefferson Nickel is a nickel minted at the Philadelphia Mint, within the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The Philadelphia Mint struck 441,840,000 nickels dated 2003. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. The last year of Felix Schlag's original Monticello reverse before the Westward Journey commemorative series replaced it in 2004. Philadelphia's mint — the nation's first — has produced coins without interruption since its founding in 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0.05 to $1 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #4152.
