Description
2003P-5DEO-001T is a 2003 Philadelphia Jefferson nickel obverse with trails. Its parts: 2003P for the date and Philadelphia mint, 5 for a five-cent piece, DEO where TrailDies records a design extension on the obverse, 001 as the file, and T to say the die has trails. Light lines rise from the upper left corners of IN and of the D in GOD and run straight up the coin at 000°, due north. The coin in the entry comes from stage C, late in the die's use: a die dot sits left of the W in WE on the obverse, and another lies just past the A of STATES on the reverse. Tanaka Davis found the die. Most students of these dies blame trails on a rotary buff used to polish the die, though a few suspect the die moved against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – a die dot is seen to the left of the W in the word WE.
- Reverse is LDS – a die dot is seen to the right of the A in STATES.
