Description

ADC-5c-2000-04 This 2000 Jefferson nickel, minted in Philadelphia, shows two distinct clash events. The overlays provide show the relative position of the dies when they did clash for each event that did occur. This coin comes to us courtesy of David Strzalkowski. The picture above shows the clash mark left by the right top of the Monticello building. The two clash marks under PL of PLURIBUS have been left by the front of Jefferson’s coat. The anomaly indicated by the black arrow is not a clash mark and appears to be a die dent. The strongest area of clash marks is over the right side of Monticello and appears to be “flames” coming from the roof. Another indicator can be  just to the right of the I in IN. Again, this appears to be a die dent and not part of the clash event.
