1999 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

The 1999 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 exhibits obverse doubling resulting from misalignment between the hub and working die during the die-making process. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark) on a copper-plated zinc planchet (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper), 2.5 grams, 19.05 mm. Die markers: Obverse: A die gouge can be found well south of the last 9 in the date. A small die gouge can be found to the right of the lower G in GOD. The obverse shows evidence of abrasion to remove die clash marks in the area behind the neck and around the ear suggesting that pre-die clash specimens may even show more of the extra earlobe. Reverse: Two small die gouges can be found below the right end of the Memorial. Strong die clash marks show in the lower 4th and 9th Memorial bays. A die clash mark runs south from the bottom of the Memorial below the post to the right of the steps.
