Description
On 1999P-5DEO-002T, a 1999 Philadelphia Jefferson nickel obverse, trails come from the bottoms of both 9s in the date and from the star between LIBERTY and the date, all at 000°, due north. TrailDies numbers it as file 002 of its 1999 Philadelphia nickel obverses with design extensions (5DEO), the final T meaning trails. TrailDies adds that the reverse paired with it shows minor trails of its own. Markers: a small gouge between the E and R of LIBERTY and die damage at the bottom left of the U in UNITED. Tanaka Davis found it. Trails are usually ascribed to polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some ascribe them to the die moving against the hub.
