1999 (P) Jefferson Nickel - P-5DEO-001T Trail Die Obverse
Error
Description
1999P-5DEO-001T is a two-direction trail die on a 1999 Philadelphia Jefferson nickel obverse. Trails come off the date, the mint mark and LIBERTY, running at 000°, due north, and at 180°, due south; TrailDies does not say which features carry which direction. Its number marks the nickel with a 5 after the 1999P date, uses DEO for TrailDies' design extension obverse, and ends with file 001 and T. Both sides are late. The obverse has no markers, while the reverse has a short crack from the rim into the field left of the P of PLURIBUS and curved scratches above the R, I, C and A of AMERICA. T. Davis found it. Trails are generally attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage "C", obverse is LDS – none noted
- Reverse is LDS – a small die crack is seen from the rim into the field on the left side of the P in PLURIBS. Curved die scratches are seen above the RICA of AMERICA.
